Our History:  The La Follette Way to Fabricate

1936 – From humble beginnings come great things. Established in 1936 by J. Minton Sharp, the Motor Grinding Co. repaired heavy equipment for the coal industry and manufactured mine fans. By the early 1950’s the name was changed to La Follette Machine & Tool Company.

1962 – A journey of persistence and hard work. In 1962, Gerald “Jerry” Sharp joined the company and began manufacturing tipples for the mining industry and repair blocks for Caterpillar®. When J. Minton Sharp retired in 1977, La Follette began focusing on warranty work for dozers and highlifts.

1987 – Success as a result of foresight and resolution. Jarrett Sharp entered the business in 1987 and two years later, in 1989, La Follette was one the first companies in Tennessee to install a 1500 watt CO2 laser. Soon, the emphasis shifted to precision laser cutting and metal forming.  Gerald “Jerry” Sharp retired in December 2014, and the company moved after spending 79 years in downtown La Follette.
